Lünendonk survey analyses success factors for global projects with external IT service providers
International project staffing with internal and external experts required
Understanding of industry and customer processes necessary
Stuttgart, 23 September 2008: The demands of large international enterprises on their external IT service providers are on the rise: being globally networked, providers must have a solid understanding of the industry processes and be able to staff projects with suitable internal and external IT experts. This is the main finding of a survey called "Successful Projects and Services in the Age of Global Delivery", which analysed success factors in the outsourcing of IT projects.

On behalf of GFT Technologies AG, the market research institute Lünendonk GmbH surveyed 32 large enterprises that work with external IT service providers, asking them about their experiences and plans in connection with the placement, control and staffing of IT projects. The results revealed that only an IT service provider with solid understanding of the industry processes can create added value for its customers.

Almost all the companies surveyed already have experience with nearshore and offshore projects. In the future, they want to use this model more intensively, especially for the development of individual software. As the global delivery of services tends to increase the complexity of the project management, the majority of the interviewed companies agreed that, in the future, an important precondition for bringing the benefits of a global delivery model to customers will be the advanced international networking of the service provider with its teams in the nearshore and offshore countries.

Against the background of an increasing lack of qualified staff, successful service providers must be able to quickly recruit suitable IT specialists at an international level. For complex and critical projects in particular, there is a trend toward managed services: the survey indicates that most companies prefer to deploy mixed teams consisting of internal and external employees and take care of the project management themselves.

Ulrich Dietz, Chairman of the Executive Board of GFT Technologies AG, says: "The survey reaffirms our strategy to consistently deepen our industry specialisation and be available as an international partner. Our global network of experts enables us to offer our customers an on-site team that perfectly suits the project. Our focus on the financial services sector and our extensive understanding of the processes involved, makes us the preferred partner for the sector."
